EXPRESS YOUR VIEW: Relationships and sex education consultation
As you may already be aware, the Department for Education has announced changes to relationships and sex education following nationwide consultation. These changes were originally meant to come into effect in September 2020 and all schools are required to comply with the updated requirements. Due to COVID-19, schools have been able to delay this until the summer term 2021. The statutory guidance can be found at:
At The Henry Cort Community College we understand the importance of educating students about sex, relationships and their health, for them to make responsible and well-informed decisions in their lives.
The teaching of Relationship and Sex Education (RSE) and health education can help to prepare students for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of adult life. It allows us to promote the spiritual, moral, social, cultural, mental and physical development of students at school and in the wider society. We have an obligation to provide students with high-quality, evidence and age-appropriate teaching of these subjects. Our policy outlines how the college's RSE and health education curriculum will be organised and delivered, to ensure it meets the needs of all students.
The idea of this consultation exercise is to give you a chance to see how we have interpreted the statutory guidance, for you to ask us any questions and for us to gain your feedback. Please take a look at our draft RSE Policy which will give you all the information you need about our approach to Relationships & Sex Education (RSE) at Henry Cort. Also attached is an overview of our curriculum, which will give you more information about the themes and topics covered across all years.
Please refer to our draft RSE Policy and curriculum map which can be found below before completing the following questionnaire:

This consultation process opens on Wednesday 28 April and will close on Friday 7 May 2021. Once consultation ends, we will then consider feedback and respond to any questions raised. We will then take any views and opinions into consideration and publish the final versions of our RSE policy and curriculum overview. This policy and curriculum will then come into immediate effect.
Please note, this consultation is for parents/carers of students attending The Henry Cort Community College only.
