First ever win in Hampshire Cup final for Year 11 team

We are very proud to report that our team of Year 11 boys from The Henry Cort Community College are Hampshire Cup champions after another thrilling match on Thursday 27 May against Admiral Lord Nelson School in which they won 2-1.

The match held at Fareham Football Club follows the team’s successful run in the English Schools Football Association (ESFA) National Cup in 2019.  The majority of the team have played together since primary school includes two Portsmouth Academy players, Elliott and Toby.

Henry Cort got off to a flying start and took the lead after just 3 minutes in with a superb dribble and finish from captain Elliott Simpson, after a neat one-two with Harry Cook. Mid way through the first half the scores were level after ALNS scored on the counter attacked. 1-1 at half-time. Henry Cort once again were fast out the traps and immediately retook the lead at the start of the second half. Ethan Gee smashing the ball home from inside the box after some good build up play. ALNS pushed hard and tried their best to pull a goal back, but a MOTM performance from Toby Steward in the Henry Cort net with several outstanding saves was enough for the lads from Fareham to see out the victory and lift the Hampshire Cup for the first time in their history.

What a way for Year 11 to finish their time at The Henry Cort Community College.  Mr Plomer, PE teacher said “The attitude and team spirit the boys have shown has been exceptional. We have come up against some very talented opposition and the team has had to dig deep and work extremely hard to come out victorious. After previous heartache in this competition, we can finally say we are Hampshire champions.  I am very proud of what they have achieved.”

The players were: Toby Steward (GK), Harry Cook, Ben Costley, Joe Davies, Ben Evans, Ethan Gee, Toby Hancock, Logan Hart, Oliver O’Mahony, Logan Roseby, Dylan Sibley, Callum Simmonds, Elliott Simpson (C), Joe Simpson and Josh Carpenter.

Ms Claudia Cubbage, Principal, said: “We are immensely proud of this team and their achievements over a number of years.  Many of the boys were selected to represent England schools in 2019 and they truly deserved to win the Hampshire Cup this year!”
