Dear Parents/Carers,

Transition to The Henry Cort Community College We are very conscious that all our prospective students and their families will have been giving a lot of thought to how transition between primary and secondary school will take place this academic year. Our transition team have started to visit Year 6 pupils in their current schools. This helps to build relationships with the children ahead of the crucial step to secondary school in September. We realise how important it is for Year 6 pupils to be able to visit their secondary school before starting.

Therefore, we are delighted to invite your child to our Transition Day on Wednesday 6 July 2022 between 9:00am-2:00pm.Children should arrive at the college by 8:45am in their current school uniform. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide lunch, therefore your child will need to bring a packed lunch and a water bottle. During the day, your child will meet with their House Progress Leader and other staff. They will look at:

 What it’s like to be a Henry Cort student

 An introduction to college structures and how to prepare for Year 7

 How to use the college’s IT facilities for both in college and home-learning

 Discuss how they feel about transition and ask questions We hope that we will be able to use the cashless system we operate in the canteen in September, we hope to complete fingerprint biometric registration.

We will be using the cashless system we operate in the canteen in September and we hope to complete fingerprint biometric registration on the transition day. In addition to the Transition Day we would like to invite parents/carers to an Information Session on the same day. We will be holding a session at 13:00-14:00 in the Cort Theatre. Please arrive from 12:45 for a 13:00 start.

Your child can be collected from the college gate at 14:00. If you are not attending the parent information session, and you wish a friend or other parent to meet your child at the end of the day, please complete the Transition Permission Form, as we will not allow children without permission to leave. This also applies if you wish your child to walk home.

The aim of the parent/carer information session is to support you and your child in preparing for education at The Henry Cort Community College and to give you some crucial information in an assembly format, including:

 How (virtual) home-learning is organised at the college

 How students can use this term and the summer holidays to prepare for Year 7

 The college uniform, equipment and behaviour expectations

 Pastoral systems within the college and other key policies

 Introductions to some key members of staff In addition to this, you will be able to take away the full Transition Information booklet, IT log-in and a transition activity pack.

There will also be an opportunity for a short Q and A session at the end of the presentation. The sessions will take place in the Cort Theatre and will last for an hour. Please sign in and collect your information pack on arrival.

A separate communication will be sent shortly regarding the Summer School arrangements.

Thank you for taking the time to read this, we are really looking forward to having the opportunity of meeting you in person.

Yours sincerely

Mrs S Warner
