FIRE UPDATE: College will be open on Monday 16 December 2018

Following a weekend of airing and deep cleaning by our site team, we will be fully operational on Monday.  Students are to access the Science block via the external doors only.

Unfortunately, an electrical fan failed in the Science chemical store causing a small fire on Friday.  The alarm was raised and students evacuated to the basketball courts, the fire brigade were called but because of the nature of the fire and the risk of chemical/smoke inhalation students were moved to the Astroturf.

Students were held on the Astroturf until the fire was extinguished at which point they were moved to the sports hall to get them out of the cold. When the site was handed back by the fire service we were informed that students could go back to classrooms. However, it was immediately clear that this would not be possible as the acrid smell and chemicals in the air posed risk to students and staff. I therefore took the decision to close the college.

I must say how proud I am of the students who responded brilliantly to staff instructions and worked with us to ensure that everyone remained safe throughout.
